Karyn Olivier Inbound
Client: The Mitchell Center for the Arts at the University of Houston
Project: To work with artist Karyn Olivier and create the photography for the billboards. It was a really fun project. Driving around with Karyn to decide the lane, the exact moment that the billboard would align with its background. We created the the imagers and create the printing files for the billboard.
Inbound: Houston is a temporary public art installation on interstate billboards surrounding Houston, TX. In October and November 2009, Olivier converted 13 billboard advertisements on Houston’s freeways to photographic representations of the landscape that exists directly behind the billboard structures. In addition, Olivier collaborated with two composers who created musical scores to accompany the billboards and made the soundtrack available on Houston’s NPR station. She premiered two videos made to accompany a live performance of these compositions on November 17, 2009 at Moores Opera House at the University of Houston.
